Hungayono forest of Gorontalo


One of forests at Gorontalo Province. This part of Taman Nasional Bogani Nani Wartabone. 45 min rides from Gorontalo to Tulabolo village, East Suwawa.

From Tulabolo we ride trail ojek (taxibike) about 40 min, passing river, and riding besides cliff. Not too far actually, but the terrain over and narrow. Some choose start trekking from this village.


You can see wild Tarsius (very cute), many birds like hornbill, owl and Maleo (Sulawesi endemic), some kind of monkeys include black face monkey, and many super big trees. Start earlier for see more exotic animal, because usually they looking for food in the morning.

It’s a good place. All take about 6 hours start from trail and back at trail station for slow trekking condition. Sometimes stopping to look animals or forest plants. It’s easy-middle trekking category, fun, educative and enjoyable with good scenery and many exotic animals.

You need to be accompanied with ranger. This a huge forest. Ranger can be contacted directly or via guide.

You need to arrange the permit to enter this part of Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park as well as a professional ranger who spotted many species of birds 948 different ones), Tarsier and Black Macaques.
You could take photos of the endemic Maleos there. Simple accommodation (the tour company brought sleeping bags and sleeping pads) in the forest and great fresh food provided by a cook.
